Gynecomastia is the excess proliferation of tissue on the male chest that affects up to 20 percent of all males. The appearance can range from puffy nipples to a point where the male chest can develop female characteristics. Male breast reduction can instantly sculpt the breast; transforming overdeveloped male breasts into a more masculine appearance that is proportional to the rest of the male body. Male breast reduction surgery is safe and effective; which is why the procedure is rapidly growing in popularity with males of all ages.

WHAT IS GYNECOMASTIA?

Gynecomastia is a condition of over-developed or enlarged breasts in men that can occur at any age. The condition can be the result of hormonal changes, heredity, obesity or the use of certain drugs. Overdevelopment can occur in one or both breasts; in fact, asymmetric breast tissue growth can be common.  Unfortunately the cause for this imbalance is unknown, or idiopathic, in the majority of cases. Gynecomastia can cause emotional discomfort and impair your self-confidence. Some men may even avoid certain physical activities and intimacy simply to hide their condition.

TREATMENT

Treatment of gynecomastia is surgical. There are no non-surgical alternatives that work. The vast majority of cases require the use of liposuction and tissue removal with a small incision around the areola. The goal is a masculine appearance of the chest and the removal of the offending tissue. In severe cases of gynecomastia, the weight of excess breast tissue may cause the breasts to sag and stretch the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple). In these cases the position and size of the areola can be surgically improved and excess skin may be reduced.

RECOVERY

Post-surgery pain and swelling is common and usually subsides within a couple of weeks of the procedure. Many patients will wear a compression garment for 4 to 5 weeks following the surgery to suppress swelling and contour the chest.

Most men can return to work within 3 to 5 days of the surgery. Light exercise, such as walking and jogging, can usually begin within two weeks and more intense exercise, such as weight lifting, is permissible after 4 to 5 weeks. Sex is not recommended for the first 7 to 10 days.

RESULTS

Gynecomastia surgery results are immediately visible. Over time, post-surgical swelling will resolve and incision lines will fade. Satisfaction with your new image should continue to grow as you recover from surgery.
